Such recruitment-based adoptions are the most difficult to carry out, social workers say. Gonzaga, who worked with his wife Heather Setrakian at eharmony and then on the Family-Match algorithm, referred questions to Ramirez. Social workers say Family-Match works like this: Adults seeking to adopt submit survey responses via the algorithm’s online platform, and foster parents or social workers input each child’s information. Adoption-Share is part of a small cadre of organizations that say their algorithms can help social workers place children with foster or adoptive families. “It’s wasted time for social workers and wasted emotional experiences for children.”___Contact AP’s global investigative team at Investigative@ap.org or https://www.ap.org/tips/

In 2022 there were 3,916 repatriations to 55 different nations, including 2,724 who were forcibly removed on special charter planes. To put that in perspective, 105,129 migrants arrived by boat alone last year, including 18,148 Tunisians and 20,542 Egyptians. Officials say the trouble is Italy has limited accords with non-EU nations for repatriations, which makes it hard to send migrants home. In recent years, various governments have signed bilateral readmission accords with various countries, including Tunisia, Egypt and Nigeria. At present there are 10 repatriation centres in Italy, which have a capacity to hold 1,338 migrants until their planned expulsion.

David Minkin, an attorney for Maui County, told Reuters that only a small portion, if any, of its land was involved in the blaze. Wildfire victims have struggled over the years to hold landowners liable, even for fires ignited on their property. Rick Linkert, a California attorney who specializes in defending wildfire cases, said it may not be easy for Wells' legal team to show negligence. They would have to demonstrate there was an accepted standard for managing grasslands and that the landowners ignored it, he said. Maui County has filed its own lawsuit against Hawaiian Electric, which it blames for the fire.

Ron DeSantis of Florida’s administration issued Covid-19 vaccine recommendations this week that directly contradicted federal officials’ guidance as his presidential campaign tries to use the resurgence of the virus to appeal to Republican voters. With cases ticking up, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended on Tuesday that everyone six months and older who had not received a Covid-19 shot in the last two months receive a booster vaccine. The new shots, approved by the Food and Drug Administration this week, appear to be effective against a vast majority of Covid-19 variants now in circulation, according to data presented at a C.D.C. Mr. DeSantis’s administration advised that Florida residents under the age of 65 skip the updated boosters. use healthy Floridians as guinea pigs for new booster shots,” Mr. DeSantis, who has a history of downplaying the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines, said in a statement after he hosted an online panel Wednesday to discuss the new federal guidelines.

Aug 11 (Reuters) - Wildfires on Hawaii's Maui island and Big Island have killed at least 55 people, forced thousands of residents and tourists to evacuate, and devastated the historic resort city of Lahaina. WHAT'S DRIVING THE HAWAII WILDFIRES? Winds from Hurricane Dora, hundreds of miles southwest of the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean, have fanned the flames across the U.S. state, officials say. There was no estimate for the Upcountry fire in the mountainous center of the eastern mass of the island, Maui County said. The island of Maui lies to the north and west of the island of Hawaii.

She was 11, about his age, and both had little sisters who sold Girl Scout cookies and were adorable sprites who also drove them batty. They were at an age when little sisters could get in the way, no matter how cute they looked in a Girl Scout sash. Sadie could unload Girl Scout cookies as if she were giving away gold — she sold 1,400 boxes in 2022. And why was Sadie selling all those Girl Scout cookies? Their moms would bring them each to New York, along with their little sisters, in June.
You can now unsend and edit texts with Apple's new iOS 16 update. Apple announced in June that its fall software update, iOS 16, would allow users to unsend and edit texts. But one of my friends noted that it doesn't appear as an edited text — both the original message and another bubble of words appear, with the latter including the edited copy. Apple also isn't the only platform that offers these features — Google lets users unsend emails, and Slack users have had that capability for a while now. But being able to amend texts on my iPhone still feels like a novelty.
